I have not heard of any clients on the paleo diet that experienced kidney strain. For my strict Type 1 diabetics we strive for the ‘zero carb’ regime and see how they respond.
Another client is trying to avoid gluconeogenesis during the night so he eats 50-70gr of butter before going to bed.
There’s a lot of confusion regarding diabetic ketoacidosis. It is a
potentially fatal condition. For this to happen you need TWO elements: extremely deep ketosis + extremely high blood glucose.
It is dangerous for someone who doesn’t know they are diabetic (and for
whatever reason happens to be in extremely deep ketosis), but anyone
checking blood glucose (BG) on a regular basis can easily avoid it. Being in ketosis means low BG.
