Deep Muscle Stimulation (DMS) FAQ

How does it work?

Through clinical studies it has been demonstrated that the Deep Muscle Stimulator stimulates blood flow within the body and increases range of motion in muscles and joints. This process helps to reduce pain.

What can I expect at my appointments?

You can expect 25 minutes or 50 minutes to relax and do absolutely nothing. The Deep Muscle Stimulator session is completely painless. Each treatment you will be met by your technician, you get to stay fully clothed, and you get to lay down. The DMS device gets used on your sore, tight, or stiff areas of the body.  After you are done you can get back to your normal activities immediately with absolutely no downtime, nor pain, swelling or any discomfort.

What happens if I miss an appointment?

It is not recommended that you miss an appointment. We are committed to reserving your time and staying on time for our patients. If you miss an appointment and do not give us 24 hour cancellation notice you will still be charged the full fee.

How is it different than massage?

Deep Muscle Stimulator (DMS) is a hand held vibration/percussion device. The treatment removes muscle tension in the same way that massage works. It can accomplish treating more sore areas of the body in a shorter amount of time than by hands. The DMS device never gets ‘tired’, while a massage therapists hands can get tired. The pressure therapy is consistent and the Deep Muscle Stimulator stimulates the muscles to relax. There is no use of gels, oils, creams, numbing agents, needles and no downtime.

How is it different from other “non-invasive” body techniques?

The Deep Muscle Stimulator is completely safe and effective.

Are there any limitations to what I can do the day I’ve had a DMS session?

No. You can continue your normal activities. It is strongly recommended that you commit to and follow the treatment protocol: stay hydrated (8-10 glasses of water a day), continue to eat healthy and exercise (we recommend walk at least 30 minutes a day).

What areas of the body can I use Deep Muscle Stimulator on?

Deep Muscle Stimulator treatment has proven effective on the hips, spine, feet, shoulders, arms, and thighs.

Is it covered by insurance?

No, DMS treatments are considered elective and are not covered by insurance.

Is it safe?

Yes, with two exceptions. If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, DMS should not be used. Additionally, if you have a pacemaker, this treatment may not be for you. There are no known detrimental risks but potential unknown risks may exist.

Are there any side affects?

The treatment process is completely non-invasive and if you are sore after massage, you may experience similar soreness.

Is it effective for stress?

Yes. Our clients feel that they feel better after these treatments.

How long do results last?

DMS can be a part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle or help you get out of pain if you unfortunately have pain. DMS is a stand-alone treatment or ideal for those that are already getting acupuncture, Chiropractic and other body work.

How soon after my last DMS treatment can I do the next session?

If you have a lot of pain you can have daily sessions. Many of our clients schedule weekly sessions as part of their health profile. Otherwise, this is entirely up to you!
