Weight Loss & Increased Energy

We are three weeks into January and already, “new year resolutions” are slipping back into old habits. Are you still “on” the diet or exercise program you promised yourself? I know it’s hard and I understand human behavior.

I’m proud of my 20 or so patients who started the new year deciding to do a “21 day Cleanse” with me. The great thing is we are actually having an easy time staying on track and everyone is reporting terrific weightloss and improved energy.

Here are a few tips and strategies to implement:

#1: Implement Better Calorie choices…

I simply include celery, cucumbers and tomatoes as FIRST CHOICE SNACKS. Doing this “displaces” other higher calorie snacks that I may have eaten if I had not first PLANNED to snack on the veggies.

This helps us avoid excess food calories. 

#2: Switch Carbohydrates…

I replace potatoes with mashed cauliflower (or mashed broccoli). Another example is not eating bread – period! Instead of rice I use quinoa or lentils. 

That switching strategy removes high-density carbohydrate foods with LOW density carb foods with high nutrient and fiber value. This create a natural drop of caloric intake, again – giving my body a reason to tap into my body’s fat stores to burn fuel.

#3:  Exercise…

All I really need is consistency. My patients are doing simple body weight exercises for 10 – 30 minutes each day. Get moving!
